In many EB-5 cases, the investor of record is a student or young professional, but a parent or family member is the actual source of the investment funds. This is common and accepted under EB-5 rules. What matters is a clear, documented, lawful paper trail for the money. The right guide for your family often depends on where the funds are coming from, since funding rules, currency movement, and documentation norms vary by country. Choose your country below, or read our general funding guide if your country isn't listed yet.

Regardless of country, USCIS looks at the same core question: can the source of the invested funds be documented as lawful, and can the path the money took to reach the investor be traced clearly? For gifted funds, this typically means a signed gift letter, documentation of the giver's own source of funds (income, business ownership, property sale, etc.), and bank records showing the transfer. Moving significant capital internationally often involves country-specific rules (foreign exchange controls, reporting thresholds, or tax consequences) that should be reviewed with an adviser familiar with both the origin country and U.S. requirements, ideally before funds move.
